Leon Gallery hosted a pop-up installation of Unarmed on its front windows and we were able to meet artists and community members still feeling the sting of the Elijah McClain protests that ripped through Denver over the Summer. Denverite reported on the scene. We also installed a series of jerseys downtown and in Aurora, at the Elijah McClain memorial site.
In Aurora, CO, just outside of Denver, a small memorial site sits at the location where Elijah McClain was brutalized by police at an empty stretch of road beneath a highway. Seconds after we installed his jersey a young man stopped to introduce himself. We shared a brief moment of grieving before he continued on his way and night closed in on the scene.
